Helvetica Neue Bold, −3% tracking, 0.98 leading. Display only.
IBM PLEX MONO — 11–12px, uppercase for metadata, sentence case for captions. Every fact on the site is set in mono: numbers, types, cities, dates. The mono is the archive; the grotesque is the voice.
Body text: Helvetica Neue Regular 16px / 1.55. Used sparingly — three paragraphs maximum per page.

04 — Image-under-text interaction
Each index entry carries: title / type / metadata / image / tint / caption.
— All images preload as full-bleed fixed layers behind the page, opacity 0.
— Hover, keyboard focus or tap sets one layer to opacity 1 (450ms fade).
— Colour-true by default: photography keeps its original colour, held full-frame; duotone / negative / mono remain as alternate treatments — every entry still owns a colour.
— All type is white with mix-blend-mode: difference, so text refracts whatever is behind it: dark on paper, chromatic negative over colour photography. Slightly uncanny by design.
— A slow 14s scale drift keeps the active image alive.
— On touch devices an IntersectionObserver activates the entry nearest the viewport centre while scrolling — no hover required.
— Idle: after ~6s without input the index auto-cycles every ~4s; each name scrambles in like a decoding tape.
— Transition: the incoming image arrives in sliced glitch steps; a giant outlined name crawls behind the page; film grain sits over everything.
— Photography: square press shots are never cropped — full-height, centred, faces framed as shot — while a blurred enlargement extends the frame to landscape. Replace placeholders via the Images page (footer link) — drops persist.
